in our lives. Exploration and production
of oil and gas require the integration of many different skills and
specialties; Exploration is only a main part of the field of Petroleum Geology.
There are several technologies available to extract petroleum from the ground
and then process it into one of the thousands of commonplace things made from petroleum-based
products.
This conference
discuses about the structure of a found petroleum accumulation and the
technologies used to model it for scientists to determine how to best utilize
its resources, as well as the refining process, and the end results of that
process. Electromagnetic methods that were primarily used in mineral
prospecting are used to find oil.
Petroleum geology is
not a well-defined academic subject. Geochemistry and petroleum chemistry are
also important. Oil companies recruit numerous geologists with little training
in these subjects.
